Gas-solid Interaction V. Specific and Non-specific Interactions in the Adsorption of Hydrocarbons on Magnesium Oxide and other Ceramic Oxides *

چکیده
The heats of adsorption on magnesium oxide of six linear chain alkanes (C4 to C 9 ) , of the corresponding 1-mono-olefins and of the cycl ic compounds cyclohexane, cyclohexene, 1.4-cyclohexadiene and benzene have been determined by gas-solid chromatography and extrapolated to zero surface coverage. The values obtained with n-alkanes are linearly dependent on the carbon atom number. By comparison with previous results for alumina and silica-gel, it is seen that the dispersion-interaction adsorption potentials for the CH 3 and CH2 -groups take very close values on the three different oxides. As for the cyc l i c molecules, a constant increment of about 1.40 kcal /mole in the heat of adsorption on M g O is observed when passing from cyc lohexane to cyclohexene and from the latter to 1.4-cyclohexadiene, in ful l agreement with the rrsults for A1 2 0 3 . The values for benzene are intermediate between those for cyclohexene and those for 1.4-cyclohexadiene. These results are interpreted in view of a specific interaction of electrostatic nature between surface hydroxyls and jr-electron systems. With linear 1-alkenes, the specific contribution becomes more apparent with increasing chain length, the difference in the heats of adsorption reaching a value of 1.50 kcal /mole for the pair 1-nonene n-nonane.

Catalytic and Non-catalytic Conversion of Methane to C2 Hydrocarbons in a Low Temperature Plasma
The direct conversion of methane to C2 hydrocarbons, in a quartz tube reactor enforced by a DC corona discharge, was investigated at atmospheric pressure. The process was carried out in the presence of metal oxide catalysts of Mn/W/SiO2, Mn/W/SiO2 (tetraethyl orthosilicate, TEOS), and Mn/W/CNT (supported on carbon nanotubes). The total yield to C2 hydrocarbons in the presence of metal oxide cat...

In recent years, the need for high efficiency and low emission power generation systems has made much attention to the use of fuel cell technology. The solid oxide fuel cells due to their high operating temperature (800 ℃ -1000 ℃) are suitable for power generation systems.Two-component gas flow (H2 and H2O) in the porous media of solid oxide fuel cell’s anode have been modeled via lattice Boltz...
متن کاملAdsorption of Organic Probes on Carbon Materials at Zero Surface Coverage
The adsorption of several organic molecules on four carbon materials is studied by inverse gas solid chromatography at zero surface coverage. The specific retention volumes and the differential heats of adsorption (or standard enthalpies of adsorption) are used to study the influence of the porous structure and the chemical surface groups in the process. From the comparison of the differential ...

In this research Bi2O3 was doped with mixtures of 8, 10, 12 and 18 mol % of Y2O3 and Yb2O3 to stabilizing the δ-Bi2O3 phase using solid state reaction technique. Experimental samples were fabricated by isostatic pressing and sintering at 850 °C for 24 h.
